Comprehensive Methodology.

(1) Identifying values, problems & common goals:

In this process I try to understand the main value highlights, circumstantial and systemic, and the team or individual goals to achieve, so that every stakeholder is aware of the dynamics of the project, and able to interact with the people involved in troubleshooting.

(2) Describing experience scenario & characterising focus publics:

Characterising both, the desired and the problematic UX Scenarios is crucial to this endeavour, which generally involves addressing audience research (personas, publics-oriented ethnographics, narratives etc.) as well as attending the intentions, motivations, affordances, and decision making protocols expected from the focus audiences, once these are decided and clear.

(3) Deciding a working strategy:

Assuming a strategy accepted by everyone involved makes things clearer and goal-oriented, which favours cohesion among all cooperative parts, and makes closer the needs of the project and those of the users. Strategy decision making works for understanding what to do, what to expect from the work done, and where to move forward once feedback and workloads are delivered.

(4) Gathering previous work, solutions and inspirational references:

This phase enforces research of valued content for previous similar problem solvers, and that will serve as resources for now solving the problem upon the addressed experience scenario. Not all references are open access, or applicable, nor suitable to the project at first, however, Reference Tagged Searches are very useful and straightforward, both ethically (value-wise) and aesthetically (appealing-wise), as a smart organisation can make this phase to save time and efforts that otherwise would be spent on probable failures.

(5) Selecting research techniques & preparing public/user focus:

Once values, problems, publics, strategy and plausible references are in order, hypotheses can be offered. Collective troubleshooting is desired, and this phase can help in designing the best cooperative approach by involving the very user into the creative, analytical and decisive processes. Continuous testing is elegant, but other forms of iteration or error-making-&-solving processes can be also applied as projects require.

(6) Applying techniques:

To this account, preparing publics and deciding techniques is fundamental to this, in order to make them to-the-point, as brief and straightforward as possible. Designing for sustained and responsive testing/research techniques means trying not to waste resources, and trying not to spend them in extensive protocols. Feedback to decision makers and problem solvers shall be as immediate as possible, but well reasoned beforehand. Generally this phase comprises:

(7) Analysing results & interpreting solutions for report:

Once preliminaries are managed, and experimentation finishes, analytical work comes to interrelate results, extract conclusions and summarise useful information, it being for creative, analytical or selective processes. I tend to focus on Qualitative Reinforcement Value reports: what’s the preferable value at stake and how research conclusions can help this to be finessed for generating more valuable and sustainable solutions.

(8) Delivering proposal, reports, guidance, recommendations and alternatives:

At the end of the last phase prior to follow-ups, proposals are delivered in reports as guidance and alternatives. That will depend on the kind of project focused and the teams involved. Research interpretations of results are not but assumptions, expressing tendencies, projections, probabilities. Oriented as intentional solutions, these empower teams to solve problems in a more resourceful way. Alternatives and recommendations are offered to solve the initial problem, while cooperating with as many stakeholders as possible for engaging real solutions. The main just goal is to benefit companies and users, thus favouring better chances to overcome future troubling conditions in UX Scenarios.

A condensed, on-&-off-line UXR analytical tool for assessing complex user profiles in a durable fashion, to be adapted for decision-based MMOs (Massive Multiplayer Online Games). The model updates a previous offline version developed for evaluating games in continuous usability testing for Blackmouth Studios. Results on social gaming interaction applied to big data tracking and experience assessment. New content enhanced the model in 2017, presented at CBC May 2017b.
